Located in the heart of historical Zululand, the Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve is one of only two private game reserves in the region that offer Big Five viewing. Mkuze boasts a diverse array of ecosystems and habitats that span across a reserve comprised mainly of riverine, wetlands, bushveld and grasslands.

The Big Five and other small wildlife roam freely throughout the diverse landscape and if you are lucky enough you may even spot a hippo wallowing in the Mkuze River. Mkuze is also an ornithologists delight as it boasts over 400 species of bird, including the Fish Eagle whose cry has come to be known as the "call of Africa".

Accommodation at Mkuze Falls is comprised of 8 luxurious chalets and a safari lodge. Chalets are built on raised wooden platforms and have spacious verandas providing sweeping views of the Mkuze River, the majestic waterfall and the surrounding hills. The central area at Mkuze is fully equipped with a cosy dining area, comfortable lounge, quaint pub and a viewing deck area. The restaurant at Mkuze serves gourmet food infused with local flavours and although their specialty dish is vennison they also serve vegetarian dishes. During the warmer summer months when the African sun is at its hottest, it is customary for guests to dine under the boma where food is cooked over a traditional style South African braai. After your traditional African braai we recommend spending the rest of the evening immersing yourself in the local culture of the energetic Zulu dancing.

HOW TO GET THERE

The Mkuze Falls private Game Reserve lies comfortably on the Kruger Park-Swaziland-Durban (N2>R66) and the Johannesburg-Richards Bay-Durban (N2><R66) routes. After you leave the R66 between Pongola and Nongoma you will travel along a dirt road and arrive at the main entrance of the reserve.
